Why Be Authentic

By definition 'authentic' means to conform to the original; in such a manner as to be accurate and reliable to the original. (Merriam-Webster 2023; Collins 2023.) Things described as authentic are consistent with the characteristics of the original.

The original is considered to be the standard by which authenticity is determined. So, when we are authentic in our behavior, in our relationships, and in how we live our lives, we are recognized as being true to the expectations of others in terms of what makes us unique. We do not compromise our values or beliefs in order to conform to society's values or beliefs. And the result of such consistency of character is that others recognize that we are trustworthy, reliable, and worthy of respect even when they do not agree with us.

Authenticity is integral not only to an effective and productive coaching relationship, but to a client’s personal growth, desired outcomes in relationships, and to effectively navigate transitional events in our lives. Authenticity in our relationship with God results in a deep intimacy with Him that minimizes hypocrisy and so, is inviting to others.

This is why my approach to coaching embraces authenticity.
